"The Town and the Telephone," an AT&T/Bell promotional film demonstrating the importance of communications systems to post-war development in the United States, made for the telephone giant by Owen Murphy Productions at some point in the 1950s.

The section from 20:00 onwards is particularly interesting in explaining the Bell System and the roles of AT&T, Western Electric, and Bell Telephone Laboratories within “Ma Bell’s” huge network. The Bell System was eventually broken up into its constituent parts in 1984, the so-called “Baby Bells,” following an antitrust lawsuit.
